Change a CV Joint Boot

  • Step 1

    Use a floor jack to to increase the side of the convey that has a torn CV joint boot. Use the designating Lifting point as stated in your owner's manual. Then support the convey on a jack stand. Never work on the convey when it is supported only by a hydraulics floor jack; the convey could fall if the jack fails.

  • Step 2

    Use a lug key to To loosen itself the lug nuts on the wheel. traction the Coil toward you and to remove it of the axle.

  • Step 3

    Remove the center hub nut. This require a special socket, as the hub nut is very large.

  • Step 4

    Remove suspension components. On some vehicles, pieces of the suspension may to prevent you of accessing the center shafts. If shocks or struts are in the way, to unbolt them and oscillation them out of the way.

  • Step 5

    Remove the supports that catch the CV joint boot in place, use a screwdriver.

  • Step 6

    Remove the CV joint boot.

  • Step 7

    Check that the CV joint is always packed with grease. If the joint is completely dry, it has summer damaged and may too need replacement.

  • Step 8

    Pack the new CV joint with silicone grease.

  • Step 9

    Slip the new boot Above the CV joint, and to tighten it use clamps.

  • Step 10

    Reconnect suspension components, re-tighten the center hub nut and To replace the wheel. inferior the vehicle, use the hydraulics jack.
