Replace an Oil Pan in a 1972 Chevelle

  • Step 1

    Remove the oil level Gauge then drain the oil of the oil pan in a container by Elimination the bolt at the bottom of the pan with a wrench.

  • Step 2

    Remove each one of the pan's fixing bolts with a wrench. The fixing bolts are located along each one side of the oil pan.

  • Step 3

    Pull the oil pan off of the bottom of the engine until the pan rest against the top of the cross-member that races underneath the engine.

  • Step 4

    Disconnect the oil pump's collect tube of the bottom of the oil pump. range through the opening enter the oil pan and the bottom of the engine to access the pickup. The collect tube Fact not use fixing bolts so it can simply be drawn out of the pump.

  • Step 5

    Slide the oil pan towards the front of the convey until it free spaces the engine. Note that the crankshaft devices several counterweights which may to mingle with it with the oil pan as it is pushed forward. to turn the crankshaft by rotation the simple bolt in the center of the vibration dampener with a key until the counterweights turn out of the way.

  • Step 6

    Apply Trimming sealant to a new oil pan Trimming then press the Trimming onto the lip of the replacement oil pan.

  • Step 7

    Place the oil pump collect inside the replacement oil pan then slide the oil pan under the engine. insertion the oil pump collect into the side of the oil pump by attack between the pan and the engine.

  • Step 8

    Position the oil pan against the engine, then to install and to tighten each of the pan's fixing bolts with a wrench.

  • Step 9

    Fill the engine with oil through the valve cover's breather cap. The quantity of oil to be additional varies with the cut of the engine so to consult the engine's Characteristics manual for the correct quantity of oil.
