Disable Windows File Sharing

  • Step 1

    Disable simple file sharing. Click "Start," then "My Computer." On the "Tools" menu, click "Folder Options." Click the "View" tab. In the "Advanced Settings" list, seek for "Use simple file divide (Recommended)" Control box, normally found towards the bottom of the list. Click to Free space the Control box. Click "OK."

  • Step 2

    Access network connection settings. Click "Start," then "My Network Places." Under "Network Tasks" click "View Network Connections." Right-click on the credit network connection (normally "Local sector Connection" or "Wireless Network Connection") and click "Properties." Inactive network connections are indicated by a red "X" on the network icon.

  • Step 3

    Disable network file and printer sharing. Click the "General" tab. Click to Free space the Control box afterwards to "File and Printer divide for Microsoft Networks." Click "OK."
