Bake a New York Strip Steak

  • Step 1

Prepare the meat. Remove the steaks from the package and pat them dry with a paper towel. Dry meat sears better.

  • Step 2

Sear the steaks. Add a couple of tablespoons of olive oil (just enough to coat the bottom) to your frying pan and heat. Once the oil and the pan are hot, add your steaks. Cook three to four minutes on each side, just enough to get a good sear. Remove steaks from the pan and place into a baking dish. Pour any juices from the pan in with the steaks.

  • Step 3

Bake the steaks. Insert your meat thermometer into one of the steaks, and place the pan into a 350 degree F oven. Depending on the thickness of your steaks, a rare or medium rare steak may only take about 10 minutes. Check the meat thermometer often to determine preferred doneness.

  • Step 4

Let the steaks breathe. Remove the pan from the oven and allow the strip steaks to sit untouched for at least 10 minutes. This will allow them to finish cooking and to make sure the juices don't flow out at the first cut.
